"On procrastination"

(101 ways to avoid doing work. #42.)

I sit and gaze across the curving bay
To where the city glitters as it sprawls;
Dwarfed by forested peaks in light of day
Electric lights reign bold as darkness falls.
My own square neon pane glows softly blue,
Lulls me with an uneasy lullaby
To half stupor; I'm torn from the glass through
Which winking cars bid me leave homework lie.
Treacherous gadget! You promise time saved,
Mind expanded, and to the world so wide
A portal. Instead I find souls depraved:
Spent a day abroad, but I'm still inside.
What good is it to click on worlds beyond,
Yet miss the day which just beside me dawned?
